PicoSure is approved for the treatment of benign pigmented lesions. These lesions are a result of the cells in the skin producing too much melanin in a localized region, often as a result of sun exposure or aging.
PicoSure is an advanced picosecond laser widely used for aesthetic treatments. With features like Boost™ Adjustable Pressure and optional 1064 and 532 nm wavelengths, PicoSure provides versatile options for tattoo removal and treating pigmented lesions, while maintaining a high degree of safety for a range of patients.
PicoSure, together with the Focus Lens Array, provides a new approach for skin revitalisation. The Focus Lens Array concentrates laser energy to create microscopic effects in the upper layers of the skin (epidermis) known as laser-induced optical breakdowns (LIOB).
These microscopic effects produce gentle pressure waves that may reach the deeper layers of the skin (dermis), potentially stimulating natural cell activity and supporting the production of collagen and elastin. This occurs without the thermal injury that can sometimes be associated with other laser technologies. Some patients may notice mild redness for a few hours after treatment.
PicoSure with the Focus Lens Array may be suitable for improving the appearance of skin concerns such as acne scars, pigmentation irregularities, and fine lines. Treatment plans are personalised, and multiple sessions may be recommended to achieve optimal results.

The PicoSure laser targets pigmented lesions with precise pulses of light. The specialized light is absorbed by the pigment, breaking it down into smaller fragments that the body can naturally remove or lighten over time. This process helps improve the appearance of unwanted pigmentation.
PicoSure may be used for brown age spots, "liver spots", freckles, and certain birthmarks such as cafe-au-lait spots or Nevus of Ota. During a consultation at our South Yarra clinic, Dr Yang or our experienced staff will assess your specific type of lesion and discuss expected outcomes.
Treatment is generally well-tolerated. A topical anaesthetic can be applied before the procedure, and a cooling device is used during treatment to increase comfort. The PicoSure laser delivers very short pulses, and patients may feel a mild snap or slight tingling, similar to a light rubber band snap. Some redness may occur after treatment, typically resolving within a day. Our South Yarra clinic team will guide you through the process and ensure your comfort.
Other devices, such as IPL (intense pulsed light) or older Q-switched lasers, may be less specific and require multiple treatments with longer healing times. PicoSure delivers extremely rapid pulses that target pigment more precisely, which can reduce the number of treatments and may shorten recovery time, depending on individual skin response.
Treatment plans vary per individual. Freckles may require approximately 2–3 treatments, depending on the client’s skin type, lesion characteristics, and response to laser therapy. During a complimentary consultation at our South Yarra clinic, our team can review your skin concerns and show authentic before and after photos of previous treatments.
PicoSure may be suitable for treating certain types of pigmentation, including melasma. Treatment plans are personalised according to your skin type and pigmentation characteristics.
